Installing Leopard on Mac OS X
Posted by Elena Scire on 28 January 2019 01:10 PM

Version 19.14 of Spitzer Pride does not include Leopard, and will disable existing Leopard installations.

If you need Leopard to search the ROC, you can make it work by following these steps:

1. Remove Spot, Leopard and Spitzer-pride from your machine

2. Download the v 19.1 installation package from http://ssc.spitzer.caltech.edu/warmmission/propkit/spot/Spitzer-pride19_1_0-mac.dmg Install it to the /Applications directory

3. Download the v 19.14 Spot installation package from http://ssc.spitzer.caltech.edu/warmmission/propkit/spot/Spitzer-pride19_14_0-mac.dmg Use spot.app from this package to replace the one you installed in Step 1.

4. Open spot.app. This should trigger an auto-update. Confirm that you want to restart Spot now.

5. After Spot restarts it will be v 19.14, but your Leopard will silently fail when you try to open it.

6. Download JavaApplicationStub from the SSC website at http://ssc.spitzer.caltech.edu/warmmission/propkit/spot/JavaApplicationStub (right click on the link and Save File As)

7. In Finder browse to your Leopard installation (usually at /Applications/Spitzer-pride/) and right click on the leopard.app icon and select “Show Package Contents”

8. Navigate to Contents -> MacOS

9. In the MacOS directory there should just be one file: JavaApplicationStub

10. Replace JavaApplicationStub with the attached version.

11. If Leopard still will not start, you may have to do the following from the command line:

cd /leopard-install-dir/leopard.app/Contents/MacOS

chmod +x JavaApplicationStub

12. If Leopard gets caught in an endless automatic update loop:

In the 'Leopard needs to perform some minor updates' box choose 'Install when I start the next time'

In the Options menu uncheck 'Use Automatic Leopard Version Update'
