Why can't I download data from Leopard anymore?
Posted by Elena Scire on 04 November 2010 09:51 AM
Leopard is now retired as the Spitzer archive interface.

The primary place where you should be downloading Spitzer data is now the Spitzer Heritage Archive (SHA), which is resident at the NASA/IPAC Infrared Science Archive (IRSA) at the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center (IPAC).

The SHA provides, among other things, a much more efficient data packaging process than Leopard did, plus the ability to only retrieve the portion of an AOR relevant to your search.

Recipes on downloading data from the SHA have been added to the Spitzer Data Analysis Cookbook, available here:

The first recipe, a simple SHA search, is here:

A more detailed example, using the tools native to the SHA to assess the qualities of several different observations of the same region, can be found as the next recipe in the Data Analysis Cookbook:

There is also online help embedded in the SHA. A full PDF manual for the SHA is planned for SHA version 2.0, due out in Feb 2011. Known bugs and other idiosyncrasies are available here:

Any questions regarding the SHA or the Leopard retirement should be directed to the Spitzer Helpdesk.
